Volunteer Today

The Locomotive Restoration Society is a registered non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration and operation of vintage railway equipment.

Since 1986, the society volunteers have been restoring Essex Terminal Railway steam engine No.9. Once complete the society will operate this and other railway equipment as a live steam tourist attraction for the education and entertainment of young and old alike.

Over 50,000 volunteer hours have been invested in No.9's restoration supported by financial contributions from membership fees, donations and gifts in kind. Much of the material and machine work has been donated by local industry and educational institutions.

While volunteer work is an essential element less than 20% of our members actually work on the project. Most members are individuals with an interest in railway preservation or community development. They join to provide moral and financial support so they too can once again share the thrill of live steam with their children and grandchildren.

If you would like to volunteer please fill in the Volunteer Application.
